Vision
Our vision is to support UK law schools in providing all students with the opportunity to experience a world class legal education.
Mission
The UK Centre for Legal Education promotes a scholarly and discipline specific approach to the innovation and reform of learning and teaching both nationally and internationally. In the delivery of its services, the Centre provides an indispensable resource for teachers and a significant means of enhancing the learning experience of students studying law.

Aims and Objectives
Aims and Objectives
Taken from the UKCLE Strategic Plan 2008-13
To work with the UK legal education community to build and enhance the sector’s capacity to deliver effective practice and innovation in learning and teaching law.
- To promote, establish and build networks and communities of practice that support and encourage the development and dissemination of effective learning and teaching.
- To investigate and develop ways of harnessing new technologies to support delivery of effective practice and innovation.
- To develop activities with student organisations and networks that will inform the delivery of effective learning and teaching and enhance the student learning experience.
To identify, develop and disseminate evidence informed approaches to legal education practice.
- To identify, develop and disseminate resources that promote awareness, understanding and use of effective and innovative practice in learning and teaching law.
- To develop UKCLE’s position as a leading, international source of information on pedagogic research in law.
- To fund and support research into legal education pedagogy and effective practice.
- To maintain and enhance the accessibility of information made available by the Centre through a range of media.
To support and enhance the initial and continuing professional development and recognition of all staff engaged in the delivery of legal education.
- To support institutions, departments and individual law teachers to engage in subject specific professional development.
- To provide services and resources to key stakeholders and other agencies to encourage the recognition and reward of good law teaching in the UK.
- In so far as is consistent with our core mission, to support professional development and enhancement of standards within the international legal education community.
To be a primary source of information and advice on matters of policy affecting legal education.
- To work with the subject community, other key stakeholders and external agencies in identifying and understanding the impact of relevant policy developments on the student learning experience.
- To contribute as an independent and influential voice to the shaping of legal education policy.
To be a responsive, efficient and accountable organisation.
- To operate according to the strategic and operational plans agreed to by key stakeholders (represented by the Centre’s Advisory Board and Strategy Committee) and Centre staff.
- To maintain effective operational, financial and strategic management and administration of the Centre.
- To ensure effective and transparent processes for monitoring, evaluating and reporting activity.
The Academy strategic plan contains five strategic aims:
- To identify, develop and disseminate evidence informed approaches.
- To broker and encourage the sharing of effective practice.
- To support universities and colleges in bringing about strategic change.
- To inform, influence and interpret policy.
- To raise the status of teaching.
